U12 Div 1 Raheny V Clontarf

Raheny 4-11       Clontarf 2-6

Raheny went into this game needing a win to try and remain in Div 1, following on from their second half demolition of St Vincent’s in their previous game Raheny again put in a tremendous effort and one wonders why they are not winning Div 1. Ryan Bradshaw in goal, his first match back after breaking his thumb (cast was only removed on Friday) was superb in goal, the back line with Jack Knott at full and with Robert O’Meara and Evan Cumisky in the corners held the line all day. Darren Cooper and Phillip Shatwell at half backs snuffed out any Clontarf forays. Midfield as usual was controlled by James O’Kane and Brian Howard, these two Raheny players are probably the best in the business at this level. Half forwards Darren Byrne, Aaron Kelly and Stephen Murphy played with great aplomb and vision beyond their years with their accurate passing and shooting. Full forwards Ciaran Kelly and Andrew Caroll played like terriers and were a constant headache for their opposite number. With a panel of 27 players and having 22 available on the day, selecting the starting 13 was always going to be difficult, and a lot of accreditation must be given to the Raheny subs, who when given their chance proved that they should be in the starting line Alex McConnell, Thomas Kearns, Sam Jupp and Pierce O’Donoghue staked worthy claims as did Dylan Kellett, Sean Mc Carthy, Oisin Kelly, Cormac McDermott and Ben Mahon.  The game was played by both teams in a very robust but fair manner with Raheny taking the spoils on the day.

Many thanks to the Maldron Hotel who kindly sponsored a new set of shirts for the team.
