Feile 2018 - Football

On Saturday we hosted the U-14 (Div.9)Football Feile at the club (Teams included Raheny(B),Ballyboden,Clontarf and St Vincents).

The day started at 8 am with the assistance of our many volunteers out preparing pitches  9 &10 which looked in excellent condition for the day. The Raheny team met at  9.15 am at the club  and walked down to the pitches hoping to go one better on their good run in the Hurling Feile 2 weeks earlier.

It was a great sight to see the four teams  led around the pitch by local Piper Noreen Gaughran in the morning sunshine.

First up for Raheny was Ballyboden and our boys got off to a flyer with early scores from Rueben Murphy, Jason Buckley and Declan Braden ensured we settled well and strong defensive led by Oisin Cummins we ran out comfortable winners 9:11 to 1-0.

The next match was against Clontarf following their win over St Vincents .This match was going to be a key match for us and how the day was going to be decided. Raheny got the first point of the match from the booth of Jason Buckley but Clontarf responded swiftly with a goal and 2 points. With both teams exchanging scores and Clontarf extending their lead to 5 points we were under pressure all around the pitch .This game changer for Raheny came with the introduction of John Mc Nally from the bench who made an immediate impact scoring 2 goals which settled our  boys. This was a competitive game of football, great displays from our defence from Cormac Lenihan (captain) in goals, Robert Moran, Sean O Grady, Johnny "Ever Running" Robinson, Shay Keogh in midfield and all the forward getting on the score sheet ensured Raheny ran out winners on a score line  of   5-8 to 2-5.

The stage was set in glorious sunshine for Raheny's final game  in the group  against St Vincent's and a win would have secured a home semi final. However St Vincent's got off to the better start with Raheny struggling to keep up with the early exchanges - a few injuries  proving to be very costly for us and at half time we trailed by 5 points. Our boys  worked tirelessly through out the second half but failed to close the gap. St Vincents finished strongly with 3 goals and winning on a final score of 8-8 to 2-6 and topping the group on points difference, they went on to win the semi final against Cuala. Temoleogue Synge were the outright winners of the division.

While we were disappointed with our final match result, we are very proud of our boy's over all performance and the manner they represented our club. The day was a tremendous success and a credit to all who made it happen- Club volunteers, Sandwich makers, Fund raising committee, Team sponsors / Scouts who supplied tents and our great supporters on the sideline.

Thank You

Hi all
The U14 boys Feile hurling and football teams would like to say thank you to all our great supporters for their help over the last couple of weekends during our Feile experience.

We had a brilliant time and the boys will have wonderful memories to look back on. Congratulations in particular go to our U14 team who reached the hurling final in Tallaght Stadium. The team hurled brilliantly over the entire weekend.
