Club Notes 24th June 2013

posted Jun 26, 2013, 5:48 AM by Ger McGloin

The very best of luck to Dublin Senior Hurlers v Kilkenny on Saturday, our U11/12 girls are travelling to Durrow for a blitz but will be supporting the dubs on Saturday evening.

The very best of luck to Eamon Fitzgerald playing with Hertfordshire in the British Intercounty Championship Final on Sunday 30 June. If they win not only will they be British Winners but they'll go through to All Ireland Junior Football Semi Final... Great to see a club man on a county team.. Even if its not an Irish one!

Ogra is now finished until September. We hope all our little stars enjoy their long summer off.   Thanks to all the parents who have helped out with the running of the Ogra and to Janice Peake and Jan McCarthy for the smooth running of the registration every Saturday.

Thank you to the ladies who look after the coffee dock on Saturday, Donna Ivory, Siobhan Reid, Eva Fitzsimons and Caroline Sutton, also to the ladies who chop the fruit for our young stars we have too many volunteers to name for this.

Mary Henry and Miriam Markham deserve a big thank you for running the Club shop every Saturday morning.

Raheny U13 Camogie girls win Division 4.
With goals from Ciara Gallagher & Aifric O'Connor we were 2-0 to 0-0 at half time. Maurs came out strong & scored 3 goals. 5 mins to go and gale force winds to contend with, Hannah Broghan scored a fantastic goal to bring us level. Mentors pacing the sideline, parents reciting the rosary & each & every player fighting for the ball, Ciara Gallagher gets the the sliothar up on her hurl and over the bar! Whistle blows, we've won the league. Thanks to all the U12 girls who have helped us out during the during the year. Ciara Stack & Dara O'Hanlon came out today and played really well. The rest of our amazing team were Aoife Baldwin, Aoife Lawlor, Andrea Cotter, Isobel McConnell, Roisin McDonagh, Stephanie Russell, Keelin Lambert, Emily McCarthy, Ciara Dodd & Katie Grehan.

U8 & U9 Girls
On Saturday the 22nd the under 8 and 9 girls teams had a Ice-cream fun day in aid of the Down Syndrome Ireland.
They started off with lots of fun games on the Astro and when they had built up enough of an appetite they descended upon the hall to devour their ice-creams, I think there was definitely  some kind of ice-cream eating record made!
Well done to the girls they deserve a BIG well done as they raised a terrific €284.50 for Down Syndrome Ireland and had great fun in the process.
Thanks also to all the people that helped out and made the day possible I'm sure Down Syndrome Ireland will be delighted with Raheny G.A.A.

Trip to Tipp:- On Saturday last, the under 9's, parents and mentors made the Trip to Tipp as we were the guests of Moycarkey-Borris. Some unfortunate last minute emergencies (Conor Ahearne -appendicitis and Jacques Bosonnet - fractured arm) and holiday commitments reduced our numbers to just under the 50 mark.
We left Raheny just before 9am and unlike other trips beyond the pale for Raheny, there were no mishaps with the bus or the directions so we arrived into Moycarkey-Borris with plenty of time for the warm-up before our first match at 11am.
Moycarkey had lined up a mini-tournament with themselves, Durlas-Og and Raheny. We played two hurling matches and one football match. Unfortunately, we were a little out of our depth as they didn't have an Under 9 age grade team so we were left to battle with the bulkier Under-10's. However, the lads put up good performances and after the initial induction settled down well. Across all our teams we had some very good performers in Robert Moran, Ruairi Kelly, Cormac Lenehan, Brian Purcell and Sean Leonard.
After a great feast provided by the host club it was back on the bus. Special thanks to Brian Fitzpatrick who came up with the idea of 40 quiz questionnaire for the lads on the way down and back - (not the same questions on the way back!!) Johnny Robinson and Karl English were the brainy boys on the way down and they each won a €10 voucher for the club shop.
As the return quiz finished just in time for our trip to Awesome Walls in Finglas, we learned that Padraig Reilly had been the 3rd winner.
Plenty of excitement in Awesome Walls as the lads and some of the mentors and Danny O'Shaughnessy's mum Tanya showed their climbing skills. The staff were patient and diligent with the boys and the mentors were able to observe from the comforts of the couches. All that was missing was a 40inch screen and a remote.
Then it was back on the bus and back to the club for a bar-b-q and refreshments. Special thanks to all the mums - Barbara, Laura, Kirsty, Sally, Belinda, Pamela for all the preparation for the bar-b-q and everybody who helped with such a great selection of cakes. There was also a cake presentation to Joe and Laura (thanks Barbara) in advance of their August wedding.
A great and enjoyable day all round and so back to the mundane Under-9 league next Saturday for the next game of the season.
Many thanks to John Corcoran and all in Moycarkey-Borris and Durlas  Óg for arranging the games and hospitality post match.
