Feile Girls Football Report

On Saturday 2nd April , ten under 14 and fourteen under 13 girls along with their mentors and parents met at the club bright and early before heading off to Neamh Mearnóg . Siobhan Woods came down to the club to get photos taken with the team and also to speak to the girls before they left. That was a great start to their day. We were delighted that Siobhan could come down to see the girls off before she headed off to her own training session. The girls were in good spirits looking forward to the day ahead.

Our first game was against St Patrick’s Donabate. We were lucky that the rain hadn’t started yet. We got off to a slow start but soon started to string the passes together and take our scores. We won that game 4-3 / 2-2 . After that match the rain started to come down. We were lucky as we had a break . Our next game which we thought would be the toughest of the group was against Scoil Ui Chonaill. It was end to end play but we came out on top 3-5/2-2.

We had a two hour gap now to get the tops dry. It was all to play for in the last game and  would be great to  finish on top. Our last game was against Castleknock .We won that game without conceding a score.  By the end of this game all our girls had played and contributed to our 3 wins.

We were through to the semi finals and our opposition was Oliver Plunketts. They had won 2 of their group games so we knew it was going to be tough. The conditions were worsening as the day went on. The girls played really well won that game 3-2 /0-0.

On Sunday we played Neamh Mearnóg. At half time the score was tight but we were up by a point. The play in the second half was end to end but unfortunately for us Neamh Mearnóg put away 2 quick goals which we didn’t answer and eventually lost 4-2 / 0-8.

Under 8 Blitz
Our U8 team were involved in a football blitz in Naomh Barrog last Saturday organised by Dublin Co Board.
Raheny,Naomh Barrog & St Brigids took part.

In our first game we played St Brigids & had good displays from our Forwards Ryan Hollingsworth & John Gorman.
They were backed up by a strong midfield due in Eoin McGuirke & Zach Donegan who both won a mountain of ball.
Thomas Judge started in goal with some excellent kickouts & then got a nice score in 2nd half.
Nathan Gibney moved to midfield in 2nd half & won some great ball with some excellent foot passing.
Killian Richmond came into his own & his ability to win ball was  crucial in getting the win for Raheny.

Our next game was against the hosts Naomh Barrog.
Raheny lead at half time through goals from Eoin McGuirke & Zach Donegan & fine displays from Nathan Gibney,Ryan Hollingsworth & Odhran Fidgeon.
Killian Richmond & Thomas Judge combined in the forwards & kept the Naomh Barrog backs on their toes.
John Gorman was also in fine form playing in Midfield & in the forwards.
With the game ending in a draw a fair result was encouraging against a strong Naomh Barrog outfit.

Our 3rd game was a thriller with Odhran Fidgeon getting an early score helped by Nathan Gibney & Ryan Hollingsworth.
Brigids came back strong but our defence of Zach Donegan & Eoin McGuirke helped kept our defence solid.
Killian Richmond then won & converted a fine free to edge Raheny back in front.
Thomas Judge got in for a fine score near the end to compliment fine work by John Gorman.

Our second U8 team were also involved in the blitz but the Easter seemed to take its toll with a slower start that gradually ramped up as the games went on. We had some very strong displays in all positions with the players all showing their versatility by moving comfortably throughout the pitch.
The Fox twins Robert and Andrew were bossing both the forward and full back lines at times in the match's with Andy Harrington catching and carrying from defence on a number of occasions, avoiding challenges. Darragh Crimmins chipped in with a number of scores and some great handling also in the game while Harry O'Donnell broke up so many plays in the middle of the park to frustrate the opposition. Daniel O'Hara worked hard in the middle of the park but was equally workman like when he moved through the frontline and also the defence with Dara Nowlan-Brady also putting in a shift. Conor Feeney and Conor Harrington as always were a huge threat up front and kept working throughout the matches searching for the points and goals to keep the games alive.
Our third match would have been our best display even though tiredness was setting in and a strong performance was put in by all the players equally making sure that they could all walk of the pitch proud of their days work on a cold grey Saturday in Naomh Barrogs ground.
Thanks to Naomh Barrog for hosting and also providing some refreshments for the kids afterwards and of course to the Dublin Co Board for the well received and earned medals.
