Club Notes 12/12/2010

posted Jul 2, 2011, 10:30 AM by Kevin Brassil
No matches at the moment as all pitches are unplayable. Looking at St Annes last Saturday it will be well after Christmas before anything is playable. Something I have never seen in my life time but down on our beloved Pitch 9 in St Annes standing proudly on the 50 mark was a large Igloo. Yes a real Igloo and it even has a sign on it ‘Igloo to let. Apply within’. When I visited there were inside were 3 lads sitting down and looking quite comfortably? I am not too sure if they were the builders or maybe they were just squatters, but well done to whoever built it. My only query was where the proceeds of the letting went to?  Suggestions to be left behind Club Bar. Best suggestion gets a price. Of paying the cost of removal! I think Mother Nature has won this battle.

Special mention must go to Club Person of the year Tadhg Moriarity. Over the last number of years Tadhg has been involved at all levels of the club mentoring many sides both at adult and juvenile levels including our Ladies. He has played a major roll over the last few years encouraging many youngsters to continue playing our games.
Belated Congrats to our U13 teams in Hurling and Football who achieved a notable double in winning both leagues . They were presented with their medals by Ciaran Whelan at a function in Club yesterday.
All St Annes pitches are now closed for all matches & training until the weekend 15/01/11 weather permitting. There was NO OGRA yesterday due to the weather. The children however all have something to look forward to next week when the Ogra will hold their annual DVD morning and visit from Santa next Saturday. Show begins at 9:45am. €3 per child & each child will receive a surprise from Santa.  Ogra will restart in the new year.

Raheny GAA would like to wish all its readers & the Raheny News  - Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh.
As Jack Frost hits us again this weekend to play havoc with any remaining fixtures, a certain man in Red paid a visit to Raheny yesterday morning.  As the girls & boys from the Orga were watching Buzz Light Year & Woody in Toy Story 3, Santa was making his way to the clubhouse.  As a reward to all who trained so diligently during the year he’d a small surprise for everyone.  He also promised that he’d be here on time whatever the weather this coming Friday night as long as everyone went to bed early.
Meanwhile on Friday evening the Mammies & Daddies who give up their time to train all the teams in the club had their Christmas party, a great night was had by all in the clubhouse.
Comhghairdeas to Rahenys Ciaran Whelan who topped the poll in98fm Dublin Legends of the Ball award. This award, recognises the exploits of past Dublin players, well done Ciaran for Club & County.
REMINDER – Membership renewal forms went out in the post recently to all members & for any one the postman missed they are available to download on the club website.  Renewals dues by end of Jan.
