This week we came up against our neighbour's Naomh Barrog in football on home soil.
Naomh Barrog started the match very strong and never let up through out the match. The first half Raheny Lion's had to work hard throughout the match but ended up chasing the game the whole way through. Naomh Barrog clocked over 4 points by the half time whisle without reply from The Lions.
In the second half the Lions picked up their tempo and started to put more efford into the game. They demostrated some great blocks, hand passes and the nominated goalie's provided their team with some great kick outs. Unfortunally Naomh Barrog had a better day at the office a won out with a score of 8 points to 1 goal.

For the second week in a row the Raheny Giants faced their local rivals Naomh Barrog on a windy morning on Pitch 12a. This time it was football and the lads were keen to make up for the narrow defeat in hurling the previous week. NaomhBarrog agreed to play 10 a side and they started the match with a strong breeze behind them. They used it to their advantage to open an early two point lead and but for ferocious defending by Ultan, Dan and Adam the Giants would have faced a much greater deficit than the 1-03 to 0-0 score line at half time. Joseph was particularly impressive in goal and his kick-outs were pin point accurate in finding Luke and Matthew in midfield who battled bravely to set up the few attacks that Raheny enjoyed in the first half.
As expected, the second half was an altogether different affair and the Giants immediately set about establishing a foothold in midfield with John, who was tightly marked throughout the game, coming more into it. The forwards, who were starved of possession in the first half now started to make their presence felt and chances came thick and fast for Cormac, Colin and Rian. The lads were very unlucky on a couple of occasions as well struck shots clipped the uprights and went wide. The scores eventually came with Luke’s trusty right boot splitting the posts from a 45 and John following up with a similar effort from out on the right. The forwards created further chances but were denied by what has to be said was some superb defending by the Barrog lads. The final result was a 3-point win for Barrog but the score line didn’t reflect the effort put in and the number of chances created by the Giants. This was a first defeat for the Giants in football this year but the team can take great heart from their never-say-die attitude and the battling qualities they showed against a well-drilled side.
