Hurling Match Report by Fionnán Ryan On Saturday we travelled (some earlier than others!!) to Collinstown for a hurling clash with Na Fianna. On what was a very windy and raw March morning, the heavens opened for about 20 minutes but thankfully held off during the match. It was a mixed bag of results with a win for the green team, a draw for the orange team and a narrow loss for the white team. The
green team were too strong for their opponents and had built up a big
half-time lead with the aid of the very strong wind. The second half
threat from Na Fianna never materialised. There were some excellent
skills on display including some great scoring from Daniel Broderick. He
was ably assisted by a powerhouse all round display from Sean Reilly
who never stopped working. Other strong performers were Conor Ahern and
Cillian Ryan.
The orange team were involved in a much closer
affair and were very good value for their draw. James O'Conell was the
star of the show with a great performance from start to finish that
included two great blocks. Cormac Lenehan as usual gave a fully
committed performance. Stefan Twomey, Morgan Spillane and Sean Dowd were
the other stars on show.
The white team came up against the strongest Na
Fianna outfit on the day and were unlucky to lose by a couple of points.
However, there were excellent performances from Josh Barry and Aaron
Fitzsimons, who got a broken hurl for his actions. |
